Dear Resident,

On behalf of the entire Resident Life staff it is my pleasure to welcome you to Shell Point!

We know that when moving to a new community you may have questions pertaining to lifestyle options, programs and services offered in this community which you now call home. Our department’s goal is to offer you an array of program and service choices which meet your needs and encourage you to live life to its fullest.

There are four areas of focus under the Resident Life umbrella. These include Resort Services, Academy and Volunteer Services, Transportation and Resources, and Salon and Spa Services.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT SHELL POINT

Volunteers play a vital role at Shell Point. There are five areas of assigned volunteer opportunity: Please watch page 3 of the Weekly Reminder for listings of current volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer leaders are profiled weekly on Volunteer Corner, SPTV Channel 11.

Volunteering begins with a visit to the volunteer manager, who gives in-depth information about all volunteer opportunities and makes every effort to match the volunteer with a position that fills a specific need at Shell Point and provides a sense of satisfaction to the resident volunteer. Call 454-2254 for an appointment to begin the process.

PROCEDURES FOR VOLUNTEER SERVICE

Volunteer Sign-in Form
Each volunteer maintains this record of hours served and submits the form annually for inclusion in the volunteer database. Information and invitations are generated from this database.

Name Badges
Each volunteer wears a Shell Point name badge for identification and recognition while serving in public areas.

Assignment
Each volunteer is assigned to a staff person or volunteer leader or chairperson for direction and support.

It is our goal to provide meaningful opportunities for the residents of Shell Point to contribute their lifetime of accumulated wisdom, experience and compassion on a volunteer basis in their own community.

I look forward to sharing those opportunities with you in the Weekly Reminder (page 3), in Shell Point Life and on SPTV.

RESORT SERVICES AT SHELL POINT

The Resort Service Department goal is to meet the social, fitness and cultural needs of the Shell Point residence. Each month 17 to 20 programs are scheduled. These programs offer everything from an evening of Dining in Naples, catching a Miracle Baseball game or being entertained by a Jazz trio. Through out the year you will be delighted by the array of Holiday programs such as a Home for the Holidays event or an Ice Cream Social on the Fourth of July. We are not confined to the Shell Point Neighborhood for our events. Throughout the year you will be informed of travel opportunities to Orlando, Savannah and other great tourist attractions.

How do you sign up for these events? On the last business day of the month the Shell Point Life magazine will be distributed. Please take the time to review the list of activities and decide which program you would like to attend. On the first business day of the month, residents have the opportunity to sign up via phone or in person at either the Island or Woodlands Service Desk, beginning at 8:15 am. This is a first come first served process. You are able to pay at time of sign up, or charge the amount to your resident account. After maximum number of enrollees is met, a waiting list is begun. If space becomes available due to cancellations you will be notified by phone.

Our “Let the Shows Begin” theater and musical selections offer programs at local Theatre venues. We provide the transportation and arrange your tickets. Your ears will be delighted when you attend one of the very talented musicians that are involved in the “Shell Point Concert Series”. Information on both of these programs will be distributed through out the year.

There are three Health Clubs at Shell Point. Each neighborhood has their own facility but please feel free to utilize any of them. The Health Clubs are all fully equipped with cardio equipment as well as weight resistance machines. Our certified Fitness Instructors offer a wide variety of classes. Please refer to the Health Club schedule located at either Service Desk.

Shell Point also offers a variety of amenities. At each neighborhood there are pools for a day of relaxation. If you have a green thumb there are more than 60 garden plots available on a first come first serve basis. Tennis courts are located at the Woodlands. On the Island, we have a 75 slip marina that can accommodate boats up to 42 feet in length. Also on the Island are the Woodshop, Art Studio, Stamp Room, Pottery Room and the Orchid House. Libraries, Game Rooms and Computer Labs are located both at the Island and the Woodlands.

In addition to the above mentioned programs Shell Point has over 60 Activity Groups! Resident Volunteers lead each of the groups with support from the Program Coordinators. With so many talented residents and such a diverse list of activities you are certain to find an activity to join. The groups are formed according to resident interest. A schedule of the following Shell Point Activities is found in the monthly Shell Point Life on the Happenings page. See the Weekly Reminder and SPTV – channel 11 for time and meeting places.
