Exercise is a very important component of wellness, and we are proud to offer you the best in equipment, instruction, programs, and personnel.

 

Please check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program.  Classes, times and instructors are subject to change.  Changes will be posted in the Weekly Reminder, or, on Shell Point TV.

  • During unsupervised hours, please remember to use the buddy system.

  • Please leave the pool area when thunder and/or lightning are present.

  • Proper shoes and proper attire are necessary for your safety.

  • All classes offered are co-ed.

  • Classes, times, and instructors may be subject to change.

  • The Island Health Club (466-1111 ext. 2537) is located on the lower level of the Resident Activity Center, next to the Woodshop.

  • The Woodlands Fitness Center (466-1111 ext. 3061) is adjacent to the Woodlands swimming pool, between Oakmont and Lakewood.

  • The Eagles Preserve Fitness Center (225-2995) is near the west entrance of Eagles Preserve, behind the Shell Point Golf Club.

BOOT CAMP (Health Club/Island) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday • 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
This fun outdoor class uses stations to get a full body workout.  Stations include cardiovascular, agility, balance and hand eye coordination.  Many team activities are in cooperated for a fun full body workout.

ARMS & ABS MAT WORKOUT (Health Club/Island) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Friday • 7:15 a.m. - 7:45 a.m.
This class is done while lying down.  It uses moves from Yoga, Pilates and various apparatus.  Supporting the body's weight with your arms is a very effective way to get a strong core and upper body.  If you are ready for a challenge this class is for you. 

BALANCE & MUSCLE STRENGTHENING CLASS - Michelle Smith, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday - Friday • 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. (Oak Room/Woodlands)
Improve overall balance; increase flexibility to reduce possible injury. Hand muscle weight work with or without hand weights.

LOW 'N' SCULPT (Health Club/Island) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Monday -Wednesday - Friday • 8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
This class combines two basic forms of getting in shape, low impact aerobics and a whole body toning.  Utilizing weights gliding discs and sometimes other types of weighted objects.  Hope to see you in this great class.

SIT AND BE FIT (Oak Room/Woodlands) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Tuesday & Thursday • 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
A total body workout combining stretching and building movements while sitting. We'll work you from head to toe to improve your circulation, coordination, balance, and toning of various muscles. All residents can benefit from this total body class.

MORNING BLEND (Health Club/Island) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Tuesday & Thursday • 8:15 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
Enhance your core strength, flexibility, range of motion and balance with exercises taken from both the practice of yoga and pilates.

STRETCH & TONE (Oak Room/Woodlands) - Michelle Smith, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday - Friday • 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Improve balance and flexibility and your overall well being.

AQUA MOTIONS (Health Club Pool/Island) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Monday through Friday • 9:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
This pool class uses a circular motion for resistance, while adding buoyancy apparatuses to create more strength and balance.

THE 10/20 WORKOUT (Health Club/Island) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday - Friday • 9:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
The first 10 minutes of this workout are low impact movements.  The second part of this class is 20 minutes of strength and toning along with stretching.  Come enjoy this exciting 30 minutes of your life!

H2O CIRCUIT TRAINING (Eagles Preserve Pool) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Tuesday & Thursday • 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
This easy to follow class is a combination of high intensity aerobics and resistance training in the pool.  An excellent way to develop both strength and endurance as well as balance.

AQUA FIT/ARTHRITIS CLASS (Pool/Woodlands) -Lynn Fraser, Instructor
Monday- Wednesday - Friday • 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Improve your cardiovascular system, strengthen your muscles, and increase flexibility and balance. Specific exercises targeted for each joint. Class format follows the guidelines from the Arthritis Foundation. Water shoes a must.

LIGHT CARDIO CLASS (Health Club/Island) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday - Friday • 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
Burn calories while moving to the music with this light cardiovascular workout.  Includes strength, cardio, flexibility and balance.

THE CORE (Oak Room/Woodlands) - Melanie Brod, Instructor
Tuesday & Thursday • 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
The main goal of this quick 30 minute class is to strengthen your core muscle areas: Abdominals, Obliques and Back.

INTO THE DEEP - (Woodlands) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Monday - Wednesday - Friday • 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Come try our deep-water exercise class using buoyancy apparatices.  This class is great for those who have trouble with the jolting of land based aerobics.  Improve strength and endurance, increase body tone and lose weight.

SEATED STRENGTHENING (Health Club/Island) - Cheryl Cooper, Instructor
Tuesday & Thursday • 1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
This class uses weighted balls and hand weights while you are sitting so you can concentrate on strengthening your muscles.

**TAI CHI FOR BEGINNERS (Health Club/Island) - Jean Dreyer (Oakmont), Instructor
Wednesday • 10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (In Season)
Tai Chi increases flexibility and muscle strength, enhances heart and lung activity, aligns posture and improves overall balance.  Join Jean in this introduction to Tai Chi to learn the basics that help you relax and gain an overall feeling of well being.

** LINE DANCING  (Health Club/IS)-Lois Forsythe (Lakewood) & Lois Gannon (Rosemont)

Line dancing choreographed to country music. Great exercise and a wonderful way to meet lively folks who enjoy a good time on the dance floor.

Grab your partner and join Dick Edwards (Oakmont - 49-89-4383) to Fox Trot, Waltz and many more dances to the sounds of Big Bands and other music.
